Media Release: New Mordialloc Baseball Club finds first sponsors

A group of new and existing baseball players have come together to form a new social baseball club, the Mordialloc Ducks Baseball Club, and they’ve found their first sponsors before they’ve even played a game, with The Mordy Supper Club on Main Street, and Sportslink.

While their first game in the 2018 season is some time away, the club is looking for potential players to register their interest online and for supporters of the initiative to get behind their upcoming crowdfunding campaign.

Inaugural Club President Ben Newton is excited about the launch, saying: “We believe that locals are looking for a sports club that is primarily focused on having fun. We’re the midpoint between a proper sporting club and a social team that you might join for netball, or indoor soccer for example, and we’d love to have a good influx of people who’ve never tried the sport before.”

The club is aiming to play all away games throughout their first few seasons in the C2 division of the Dandenong Baseball Association, playing opponents from the Bayside and South-East regions against teams from Pakenham, Cheltenham, Boneo, Frankston, Dandenong and others as part of the local winter baseball league.

“When I tell people I play baseball, there’s a lot of curiosity. It’s a game that not a lot of Australians play but there are a lot of people who enjoy watching the game or who have been to a game in the US and want to give it a go, but they don’t realise where their local club is. We’re trying to give them the perfect opening to play the game and hopefully fall in love with the game like I have.”

The club will hold all official functions and events at The Mordy Supper Club, including the club launch party due to be held in early 2018. “To have the support of The Mordy Supper Club at such an early stage is incredibly encouraging and we’ll be repaying that support as much as we can going forward.” Owner and Manager of the Mordy Supper Club Matt Pinxt said “The reason we’re behind the new club is that the concept really struck a chord with us; they’re embracing brave ambition and building something from the ground up which is incredibly impressive.”

Avner Kooperman, Sponsorship Manager at Sportslink said, “We are excited to be a Foundation Partner of the Ducks. SportsLink is all about providing opportunities for local Clubs to realise their potential, and we are looking forward to building a long and successful partnership with the newest baseball club in Melbourne.”
